He uses the TD for a slightly dirty clean tone in his live rig. Has anyone tried what happens with the 12AT7/ECC81 (like the original '80s) or 12AY7/6072A? However, this AC is 1.6 A RMS, and then tends to disturb the other signal tubes of the circuit, if it is not the screen. Tube Drivers can sound slightly different from each other anyway, primarily because of differences in the way different tubes filter the sound and circuit variations, but when using the exact same He ran out of them in 2006. Drill a hole and install a 1/8" power jack on the back of the enclosure. If the PT is close to the tube, that wont help.

It does a great lead tone, although it does not have quite the same huge bottom end and scooped mid range you find in a Ram's Head era Big Muff. I still have the original tube. Butler called the 1970 'NOS' YUGO tubes, meaning "new old stock" tubes made in Yugoslavia in the 1970s. To have a cleaner, more vintage sound, you can substitute a 12AU7 tube, which will clean up the tone and thins out the midrange. The signal that goes on the grid is taken at the connection point between the two resistors.
