I'm surprised that driver wouldn't work. I am going to install it on a couple of hdds so that I can run old windows and true dos games. I haven't tried to install a scanner driver on the target computer, but I thought the hardware should be detected even without a driver. I also had to change the scanner cable, since the Adaptec has a HD50 connector while the Domex has a 25-pin connector - like the cable I used on my old

I didn't need a SCSI terminator on the old computer and I got the idea somewhere that the scanner had some kind of "built-in termination". If you install Win98, it'll probably trash the boot of WinXP, in which case you'd need to use WinXP Recovery Console and do a fixmbr or the like. However, since the OP never described his new hardware (for his Windows XP computer), we don't know if that laptop or mobo maker has drivers for Windows XP.
